More and more people are looking into possibilities to use alternative energy sources for their homes in our days. Global warming issue actively advertised by mainstream media is partly responsible for this and price decline of solar panels and wind turbines also plays a part.
Solar panel roof is the first thing which usually people think of when considering alternative domestic energy source. Roof solar panels is a great technology, because they don’t have moving parts, they last for 25-30 years and even longer and they generate electricity — very convenient form of energy, which could be easily transformed to any other kind of energy.
So, how to get a solar panel roof for your house? Kepp in mind that it only makes sense to install solar panels on a roof side which faces south (if you live in Northern hemisphere), otherwise they won’t get enough sunlight and won’t generate much electricity. Also there are two ways you could go about getting a solar panel roof.
First you can take regular roof solar panels and screw them with special mounts on top of your roof. WHile it’s the simplest way to go about it, imaging the hassle of chaning shingles underneath your panels or cleaning leafs. The other way is to replace your regular shingles (all of them or just part) with solar roof shingles — small solar panels which interlock and protect your roof from water, just like regular shingles, but they also generate electricity on top of that.
Solar roof shingles, a special type of roof solar panels, allow you to get the true solar panel roof, but they do require a bigger initial investment, since price per watt is usually higher (but not very much) comparing to regular solar panels. There are also some exotic choices like solar water heater which usually installs on your roof too and this device heats your water and not generates electricity, quite different from standard solar panel roof, but still will save you money on your heating bill.
